Dodger Odds & Ends

Gotta start with Manny Ramirez and the new deal offered by Ned Colletti and the Dodgers.

I am pleased to see that there is an official offer on the table. This actually means progress in the negotiation process. Ramirez and Scott Boras now I have something to counter offer against.

Ramirez taking the one-year, $25 mil offer is probably not going to happen, but it's a start. The Dodgers have the right idea, offering a high yearly salary for shorter years, which has been the mode of operation lately.

My guess is, when it's all said and done, he signs for two years for close to $50 mil with an option for a third year. Whether it's a player, club or mutual option, I have no educated guess.

Some Dodger fans might think this is a ridiculous offer and it will never be accepted, and Ramirez and Boras might think the same thing, but I say it's a step in the right direction.

Starting pitcher(s): When I saw the list of names that are possible starting rotation options lined up before me, I nearly had to light myself on fire. Jason Schmidt, Eric Stults, Shawn Estes and Claudio Vargas.

Horrible.

I think it's safe to say the Dogers land Randy Wolf, and if something unforeseen happens, they'll snag Braden Looper instead. Here's a question: With James McDonald starting the season in the bullpen, why not sign both of them? What's it going to cost? $14-15 mil combined?

I can't even fathom counting on one of those four aforementioned guys, let alone two of them. Since my cries for Ben Sheets are falling on deaf ears, just sign both of those guys.

Lambo Leap: Ever heard of Andrew Lambo? Most Dodger fans probably have, but just in case, let's take a look.

Baseball America has him ranked as the Dodgers top prospect and Keith Law of ESPN has him ranked No. 2, behind McDonald who won't be a prospect anymore when May rolls around.

Last year Lambo was considered one of the Dodgers top ten prospects, but he has gone shooting up the charts and according to Dylan Hernandez in our little Q&A session, he's even drawing the interest of other teams.

Lambo is only 20 years old and was a fourth-round pick in 2007. The native of Beverly Hills already found his way to Double-A Jacksonville last year, playing eight games with the Suns. He batted 36 times, hit .389 and had three home runs.

He spent most of the year at Single-A Great Lakes and batted .288 with 15 bombs in 472 at-bats. In his first season, he played 54 games with the Dodgers Rookie squad in the Gulf Coast League and hit .343 with five homers.

I am big on tracking prospects, so this is something we'll do a lot of when the season starts.
