It now seems like it's only a matter of time after Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu have found homes.
There is very little talk linking Ramirez to the Giants, and Frank McCourt recently said the Dodgers are still trying very hard to sign the slugger. It's been very quiet on the Manny front, giving a feeling of it being the calm before the storm.
I think there is a lot to read into with the news of Ramirez canceling a Direct TV appearance because he could sign a new contract at any moment.
Don't be surprised if a deal is done soon, and don't be surprised if it's for three years. Seriously, what's so bad about a three-year deal? You have one of the best right-handed hitters to ever play the game in your lineup for three years. Shucks.
The big question for me is does a signing of Orlando Hudson follow? There have been reports, albeit, very vague ones. If so, the Dodgers are admitting the shortcomings of the pitching staff and acknowledging some more offense is going to be needed.
A lineup that includes Hudson, allowing DeWitt to platoon at second and third as well as making spot starts, would be an impressive one.
I have to make a mention of a recent move the Dodgers have made. Jeff Weaver, or Jeff "Sweet Music" Weaver as I playfully called him in his first stint, is back.
Yikes.
I shouldn't say anymore in case Weaver and I ever meet face to face. Let's just say he is responsible for any high blood pressure that I have.
