When I came home from the gym yesterday afternoon, I walked in my front door and turned on the television just in time.
Just as I turned it on, ESPN's bottomline was running across the National League Gold Glove winners.
Of course, the outfielders were listed last and for some reason Matt Kemp was the last outfielder listed.
My head nearly exploded when I saw Shane Victorino and Michael Bourn's names first, but I ridded the thoughts of murdering someone when our boy's named came across.
I was elated.
Kemp, though not as good an outfielder yet as he will be, was very, very deserving of a National League Gold Glove.
He had just two errors and finished the year with 14 assists.
He's great right now, but the crazy thing is I think he can get even better. Sometimes his routes are a little questionable, and he would probably admit that, but he certainly saves more runs than any outfielder I've seen.
Kemp wasn't the only Dodger to win a Gold Glove, because second basemen Orlando Hudson did as well.
But Kemp has been ours since he became a professional and will be for a long time. Hudson was in for a year and will be gone, so it feels a little more special to me that Matty won it.
It won't be the first he'll ever win. I could go on and on about how good this kid is going to be.
Congrats to Kemp and ODawg, I also though Loney was deserving of a gold glove since he is the conerstone of the infield defense
Can't say that Hudson was particularly "deserving" as his range has all but totally diminished. Chase Utley has been the best all around defender in all of baseball over the last 3 years and its a shame that no one recognizes it. It would be similar to giving an MVP to Ryan Howard when Albert Pujols was more deserving... oh wait... that happened. I think it would be better to recognize Fielding Bible Awards and just hand over the hardware to the player that gets those.
Dont remember Odawg making huge errors that cost your team the game....Utley is great with the bat and got acknowledged for his stick but dont think his glove is the best in the game at 2B
