Factoring in around $6 mil for contracts purchased for guys like Ivan DeJesus, Ramon Troncoso, Ronald Bellisario, John Ely, Xavier Paul, Kenley Jansen, A.J. Ellis, etc... That's a pretty conservative estimate but we'll go with it.
2011 Payroll: About $79.5 mil.
Depending on what guys make the club from the Minor Leagues or what guys bounce back, the Dodgers will need to sign about four or five guys. They probably have about $20 mil to play with. Trading Russell Martin would be a good move at this point.

Looking at every other team in the NLwest's salary commitments to players not on their roster it is sad that LA is far and above other team by 10-12 million dollars, and this is for a couple of years, the other teams will have less than 1 million. Our team payroll is around 85 million, that puts us there along with the Rockies, Brewers, Braves and Orioles. The Twins, Mariners, Astros, Giants, and Tigers all pay their teams more.
McCheap is the second coming of Commiskey, imagine if we opperated amongst the big dogs, like NY, Chicago, Boston, Det, Anaheim. We could afford any pitcher's salary, and another power bat at third, or second, and now LF. Crawford and Lee would cost 30 million and we should be able to add both to next years team and still operate at south of 100 million, we should be able to add two more guys making 10 mil apiece after Lee and Crawford. Murdock and Fox butchered the farm system and hired dumb as fuck GMs and Managers to run the team...namely Malone and Johnson. But they didnt butcher us on the cheap, the Dodgers signed the first 100million dollar player, albeit it backfired, but we ran the payroll where it should have been, and they didnt get as many fans as we do now!
Im not saying to spend money just to spend it, like the Andruw Jones signing, when Pierre would have done just fine in LF Kemp in CF and Andre in RF, but Dodger fans are to blame for the Jones signing and running Pierre out of town. But playing at 110 million shouldnt be a problem for the fans, players and city of LA.
It is MLB's fault for fault for allowing this clown to purchase the team on credit, it is McCourts debt, his problems, his divorce, his bankaccount that is ruining the team. Fans hate the owner, we fucking hate McCourt, we all hope he loses control of the team and is forced to sell! Then he should be banned from ever owning a team, sent back to bean town, go fuck up shit over there, you have outstayed your welcome, thanks for updating the stadium, hiring competent people to make baseball decisions, brining in a solid manager, but then doing everything else possible to undermine your positive efforts. Truth, I dont care about the parks your building in the community and your donations...if you dont have any money you should be donating shit, then using it as a defense...this bastard actually asked the fans "Wouldnt you rather we put the resources back into the city rather than spending it elsewhere?" NO not at the expensive of the team, millions hope that we win and, its not like you can afford to sign any of these kids your helping out when you draft them anyway!
Go home, your a bum, and not a Dodger Bum, there is pride and dignity in being a Dodger Bum. There are defenityley three things Dodger Fans have that Frank doesnt, that is respect, loyalty and obviously pussy is something your not getting much of these days.
Okay...
I believe that Jamie McCourt is not the only one cheating in this scenario. She's not a stupid lady, and I don't buy that she is suddenly too horny to stay married after 40 years (with the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers) and would jeopardize their marriage unless she thought it was already a farce. This is not the McCartney divorce and my guess is that Frank had his women(s) too. However, since they are a public "power couple" Frank, being the $ savvy guy he is, if able to prove he owns the Dodgers entirely might sue for defamation to get more money back from Jamie in the aftermath so Jamie's not going to say shit. My bet is there's more personality to this court case that's off the front page. This is a blog posting, not an article or I could get called for slander in even mentioning this.
Now...
Aside from the divorce (from which McCourt is going to lose roughly half his estate because they're most likely both dishonest and this episode was a convenient trigger for Frank to get rid of his wife) McCourt made his fortune off real estate which is probably THE worst market to be in right now. Sure, he might make a yield off his more luxurious investments. But he's not making any money from housing developments.
So...
If you add all that up, Frank McCourt's personal finances are probably indebted to any current residuals - tickets, parking, merchandise, and vendor rent (which could be tied up as well). There's some press leaks about how he's borrowing...I thought bullshit at first, but if the court is in session to decide if it's Jamie's money...He's stuck, and Frank can't sign any checks.
Divorce is just bad for professional baseball. Period.
I think the ballpark is over-charged compared to places like Anaheim, but that never stopped The Blue from signing bombs like Jones and Schmidt.
There's a few reasons why the Dodgers are an $85 mil ball club this year. We can get upset, but the judge doesn't care and neither does the savings and loan department at your local bank.
If Frank was cheating he was paying for it in credit...probably where all his money went.
Ha! Yeah, either that or in deferred payments with a player option.
Good point, point well taken.
You think when Frank gets his high class hookers he asks them to defer some of the payment?
Heh, just joking really. I can't imagine that would fly very well with her agent, er I mean 'recruiter'.
I'd get out popcorn to watch the deposition for something like that though. It's gotta be better than watch the Dodgers trade this season.
